So first off, I forgot to wish my sweet little niece, Madelyn, a happy birthday last week! The miracle baby that was born in the car! To celebrate Madelyn's day I told my companion and zone leaders how she was born. They loved it! They were very impressed with my mom and sister and with how they handled it. Give her a kiss for me Kristine!
This past week was Halloween! Guess what we get to do?! We go to the temple! Temple Square is opened 9am-9pm on ever single day of the year EXCEPT for Halloween. They close it down at 5pm because they want to avoid people doing mischievous things. Halloween is pretty much the closest thing we get to a holiday. :)
It was such a special experience going through the temple with all the sisters and leaders in the mission. When we were all in the celestial room, it felt a little bit of what heaven must be like. We are allowed to go the temple once a transfer on our own and my comp and I didn't go yet, so we went again today! Twice to the temple in four days! It was the best. While we were waiting for the session to begin, we were sitting quietly in the chapel listening to the organ play. One of the songs that played was "He Sent His son", from the primary book. I know the song by heart, so I was thinking of the lyrics while sitting there. The last few sentences in the song hit me so hard.
"Have faith, have hope, live like his son, help others on their way. What does he ask? Live like his son."
This is what I am trying to do as a missionary. This is my purpose! To strengthen my faith and live like the Savior, and to help others. To help and serve others to partake of the blessings of the gospel. I just can't put into words how strongly I feel about this. I hope the spirit conveys to you how much this means to me.
I may need to start doing a weekly "miracles" segment of my letter. I had the best experience yesterday. My companion and I are in awe of what can happen when we put our faith in the Lord. Because I don't have enough time, I will just copy and paste how I related this experience to my mission president.
This past Sunday Sister Gattud and I were inspired by sister Vasi's testimony about planning for a miracle. So we planned to meet a young man struggling with his purpose in life by the reflection pool. We really worked to put our faith in God by praying several times that we would meet him. Well, we found him. We almost past him by after saying a quick hello, but he actually seemed open to talking to us, so we sat down and began talking with him. He shared that he is currently inactive and he's trying to get back to church. He said that he loves the church but he feels a mission isn't part of his plan. He remembers the spiritual highs he had from attending EFY and youth conference growing up and he wants that back badly. We were able to share with him our own experiences and testify to him of the importance of church and reading the Book of Mormon. Towards the end of the conversation he said that his day was much better for having talked to us. We know without a doubt that the Lord was with us when we planned the day before and that we were supposed to talk to this young man. In a way, it's almost like we knew him already and that we had an appointment to talk. The Lord really works by us showing our faith first, and then the miracle comes.
I love you guys! I hope you are enjoying the beautiful fall season! Until next week!
Love,
Sister Butler
