Happy 6 Months!

Hello, Hello!

Happy Birthday Spencer! 14 years old! What an exciting age! Don't have too much fun at the dances! :)

Today marks the day that I have been out for 6 months. Whaaaattttt? Has it really been that long? I feel like I have been here forever, but I also feel like time has gone by fast. Crazy. I have a feeling it is going to keep on getting faster.

So to start of my letter, I got to go to a baptism last Saturday! It was someone that Sister Chamberlin taught with another companion, but I was still happy to be there. Michah was the guy who was baptized and he has an awesome story! He grew up Jewish but he started questioning some of the beliefs in his teens. He asked a leader in the Jewish church why they didn't have anymore prophets, and she gave an unsatisfactory answer that they didn't need them anymore. So he left the Jewish church because of that and other reasons. He came to his own answer by studying the Bible that Jesus is the Christ. When he told his family they shunned him; they didn't attend his baptism or even know about it. So years later he found the Church and started attending sacrament meeting and reading the Book of Mormon. He did all of this on his own without missionaries, but he came to a knowledge that it was true. So one day he decided to go to Temple Square with his LDS girlfriend. That's where he met Sister Chamberlin and her companion and the rest is history! Michah was beaming as he waded into the water and was baptized by the power of God. I know that the church is true! I love it!

I thought I would share with you some of the experiences I have on Temple Square. I talk to many different people in one week that sometimes I forget. Yesterday morning as we were walking to the square when we passed a woman who we think was homeless. She started yelling at as about something to do with ethnicity and the law. We were really confused. She was slowly moving toward us, so that made us a little nervous. We thought there was nothing we could do, so we started walking away. A nice man saw the whole thing and was walking in the direction we were and he said, "Wow, she sure has a lot of energy in the morning. I wonder what she's like in the afternoon." Haha! It helped lighten our moods and we were able to quickly brush the moment off and move on with the day. God is so good at sending people to help us in the exact moment we need it!

Okay, here's a spiritual experience for you guys! We talked to a young woman from Mongolia who is attending Utah University currently. She is a recent convert of three years and she has a beautiful testimony. She talked about meeting the missionaries, learning about the gospel, and how much it has changed her life! She says she tries to describe the feeling she got when she found out it was true to her friends, but it's really difficult. I felt the Spirit so strongly when she shared her testimony. It's moments like these that remind me why I'm doing what I'm doing when the days are hard. I love it!

Funny Story, I was serving in our guest services booth today, which is in the office area in the South Visitor's Center basement, and I jumped up to grab a sticky note in another booth when I saw Uncle Craig! He was talking to Elder and Sister Moore (the secretaries for the mission). I was taken back for a minute. When they finished talking he turned and started to walk past where I was standing and I was like HEY! Then Uncle Craig was taken back. Haha, it was fun to see him and hear how things are going. Sometimes I feel like nothing exists outside of Temple Square. It's just so crazy when people from pre-mission life jump out at you. Haha. :)

That's all folks! I love you all! Make sure to keep the grass watered and the dogs fed while I'm away. :)

xoxo,
Sister Butler
