Hello, how are you?
I hope everyone had a great week! Little Lukie turned three last
Wednesday! Happy Birthday buddy! Mom and Dad, is your youngest child
really three? We usually have a baby in the family, now the youngest
is a toddler. Btw, I met a couple yesterday that had nine kids with
one on the way. The mom looked amazing for having had almost ten
children! It made me think about when people say how good Mom looks
for having 11 kids. I understand now. I told them that I was from a
family of eleven and almost immediately the mom said, "So do you want
to have a big family?" I laughed because of her quick question. I told
her that I couldn't imagine my family without my youngest brother, so
I would be open to whatever the Lord wanted. :)
I have a miracle to share!!! My last companion, Sister Chamberlin gave
me a referral she received of a family through chat. Guess what? They
are from North Carolina (north east from Charlotte)! I haven't gotten
to know them really well because everytime I call, it's at a bad time.
The first time I called they were in a lesson with the missionaries. I
felt bad for interrupting, but I was happy they were meeting with
missionaries! I called a couple days ago, and it was a bad time again,
but the dad told me they have a baptism date for March 13! Yay! The
husband and wife and their nine year old son will be baptized! So, I
don't know very much about them, but I set up an appointment this week
to learn more about their story, so I will update next Mon.! Yay!
This past week was zone conference and it was like we got spiritually
fed with a firehose. President Risenmay had prepared something to
share with us, but he deferred from that plan (because the Spirit told
him to) to talk about the importance of sharing the restoration with
everyone we meet. He asked a question, "What is the most important
thing that the Lord wants us to share with guests before they leave
temple square?" The answer is the restoration of the gospel! That we
have a loving Heavenly Father, that we have living prophets on the
earth to show us the way, that the Lord speaks to each one of us
personally, and that the Savior paid the price for our sins and felt
all our pain. Everyone needs to hear this message. I was on a chat a
couple days ago talking to a young man who doesn't believe in God. My
heart hurt for him. I wanted him to just believe that he had a loving
Heavenly Father that cared about him and that there is a purpose to
life. But we all have the freedom to make our own choices. It's sad
when you can see so clearly the path that will bring someone happiness
and they choose the path to confusion and despair.
During zone conference president showed a movie. I know that you guys
are familiar with it. It's called The Quest for a Go-getter, or the
blue vase movie. This movie confused me so much as a kid, haha. So
president drew a parallel from this movie. Delivering the blue vase is
like delivering the message of the gospel. It requires diligence,
persistence, and optimism. During a low point for the main character,
he has a flashback to when he was in the war and he was lying injured
on a hospital bed.
A soldier came up to him and said something like, "You're looking
good, soldier."
The Injured soldier said, "I lost my left arm, I have a 50% chance
I'll lose my leg. I am not good."
"Soldier, you still have your right arm and a 50% chance that you'll
keep your leg. Now none of that, be an optimist!"
That part from the movie stuck out to me. We all have challenges, but
what good does it do to focus on the things that are bad? Focus on the
good! Christ said, "In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of
good cheer; I have overcome the world." (John 14:27) We can be
optimistic because Christ has overcome all things! It will all be well
in the end.
Well, that's all for today. I hope you could feel the Spirit from
reading my letter. I love you all!
Love,
Sister Butler
Beautiful letter and message from a beautiful missionary!
