Dear family,
How are you all doing??
This week we had a mission tour conference with Elder Michael T. Ringwood. He visited us with his wife, Sister Ringwood. She is the daughter of President Nelson and she is the spitting image her father.
So we split the mission in half, one half went on Tuesday and the other half (my group) on Wed. President Nelson decided to stop by for a few minutes on Tuesday to say hello. It was very last minute, President Risenmay didn't even know about it before hand. (You can imagine how startling that must've been. You know, just one of the apostles stopping by. No big deal.) We were a little disappointed he couldn't come on Wednesday, but it's okay! It was thoughtful of him to come just on one day. Elder Ringwood shared with my group some things Pres. Nelson said. For example, when he's introducing himself sometimes he will say, "I have all boys except for nine." He has a total of 10 kids, 1 boy and 9 girls, haha.
Elder Ringwood is an amazing teacher!! He gave a talk in conference called "Truly Good and Without Guile." Check it out if you can, it's great. We were able to have a Q&A with him, and a question that was asked was this: "How can I see the Lord's hand in my life?" He asked in response, "Do you have the faith not to see the hand of the Lord in your life?" In essence, do you have the faith to know what you're doing is pleasing to the Lord and that you don't need to see the miracles and blessings necessarily?
Another cool thing he shared was from a scripture in Doctrine in Covenants. I don't have my notes so I don't remember the reference. But basically he was saying, based off the scripture, that we have the opportunity to bear powerful testimony so that when people go home or go to their hotel room to go to sleep, they wont be able to because they can't think of anything else other than what they heard on Temple Square. He shared a story about missionaries inviting a lady they were teaching to be baptized, and she declined. That night she couldn't sleep. She kept on thinking of the visit with the missionaries. Finally, in the early hours of the morning she called the elders and said, "I want to be baptized so I can go to sleep!" Haha, so I'm going to have faith that when I bear testimony it will stick in the people's heart enough that they can't think of anything else!
I got in touch with an investigator I've been emailing back and forth since I first got here. She's been going to church and has a baptismal date for August. However, she is moving very soon, so I'm not sure how that's going to work. But I'm going to make sure the missionaries get in touch with her in her new home! Yay! I'm so happy for her. She has a testimony and she loves the gospel! She is currently living in SC, so that's awesome too!
This is all I have for today! I love you all! Have a great week!
xoxoxo,
Sister Butler
