Happy Birthday America!
Happy Fourth of July! Isn't this one of the best holidays? We get to celebrate our freedom in reverence of all who have given their lives for it. We indeed are blessed to live in such a choice land.
Well, to start off today I want to share a small miracle story. It strengthened my testimony of the tender mercies of the Lord. Sister Vaisa and I were tracting through a neighborhood on a SUPER hot day. We were walking down a sidewalk after some time in the heat and I said, "What I would give for a glass of ice cold water." (I did have water, it was just in the car some distance away). Not 30 seconds later we came to a house where I felt the Spirit tugging at me to knock on it. I don't usually get strong promptings to knock on certain doors, so I started to ignore it (bad missionary, I know). Then I felt the Spirit again to go knock. So we did! A man came to the door and cheerily said, "Hello! Come in!" I bet a missionary could count on one hand how many times that has happened on their mission while knocking on a strangers' door. We saw an elderly woman inside so we were able to enter. We started talking and came to find out they've been meeting with missionaries on and off for 8 years--so that explains why they let us in. :) Their native tongue is Spanish so they meet with our roommates from time to time. They offered to get us water and I got a tall glass of ice cold water! I know that isn't as cool as finding new investigators, but it was a testament to me that the Lord blessed us in simple ways. That experience of the Lord blessing me helped me push through the rest of the day, and any other day that's hard. The Lord really is involved so closely in the details of our lives.
So I told you about Brianna, and she is still out of town! We're so excited to teach her everything, but it's kind of difficult when she's not here. We're thinking of teaching her over the phone until she gets back, like I usually do on Temple Square. :)
We had some potential investigators, who were found by previous missionaries, and we went to go visit them. We went to an apartment complex where three Philippino sisters help take care of their mother (I don't think they all live there but they spend a lot of time there). They are Catholic, but I think our common belief in the Savior is what is keeping them interested. We'll see how I goes.
Today I read a talk from Boyd K. Packer in the May 2012 General Conference. It was about little children and it really touched my heart. He shared several sweet stories. One was when he was on a train at a train station waiting to depart and a little orphan beggar knocked on his car door. He was wearing rags and was shivering in the cold. President Packer went to open the door to give him money but then the train began to depart from the station before he could do so. He said he felt so helpless. Sorry, that's a bit of a depressing story, but a point I want to make is look for ways to love those around you. We all need to be loved! Show the pure love of Christ for someone today by serving them. :)
Don't go too crazy with the fire works this year! Have fun!
Xoxoxo,
Sister Butler
